Design home solar online using prices of solar providers near you

The price estimates this site gave me were way off from reality. It told me a system for my size home in my area would cost between $18,000 and $22,000. Every single quote I got from local contractors was between $29,000 and $34,000. When I asked the contractors about the discrepancy they said the site uses outdated pricing data. I ended up feeling misled going into conversations and it actually made negotiations harder because I had unrealistic expectations. Not useful for my situation.

I entered my email to get the full results and within minutes my inbox was flooded with solar company spam. Three weeks later I'm still getting emails from companies I never heard of. There's clearly a data sharing agreement with a large network of vendors. The site doesn't make this obvious upfront. I feel like I was tricked into a lead generation funnel disguised as a consumer advice tool. Unsubscribing from all these lists has been a part-time job.

Complete waste of my time. The tool doesn't account for Minnesota's specific incentives and utility programs, so all the financial projections were wrong. I got connected with two contractors through the site and both of them were pushy and unprofessional. One of them showed up at my house unannounced after I said I wasn't ready to move forward. I don't know if solar-estimate vets the contractors in their network but if they do, they need to raise the bar significantly.

Honestly regret using this site. The moment I entered my phone number to get a detailed estimate, my phone became a telemarketing target. I've received calls from solar companies in states I've never even lived in. The actual design tool is mediocre at best — it couldn't handle my home's complicated layout and just gave me a generic recommendation. The site sells itself as a consumer advice resource but it really functions as a lead aggregator. Very disappointed.
