I filled out the whole design tool, entered all my information, and submitted my contact details to get connected with local solar contractors. Within 24 hours I had seven different companies calling and texting me. It was overwhelming and borderline harassing. Two of them called me four times in one day. I understand that's how these lead gen sites work but I wasn't prepared for it. The information on the site itself is decent but the lead selling aspect is really aggressive.

My experience with solar-estimate.org was frustrating. The roof design tool kept glitching when I tried to add my second roof section. I refreshed the page and lost all my data twice. Eventually I gave up and just used the basic calculator instead. The results felt very generic and didn't account for my specific situation — I have a complex roof with multiple pitches and significant tree shading. I needed something more precise and this just didn't deliver.

I had a hard time trusting the numbers from solar-estimate after I compared them to real quotes. The site estimated my system payback period at 6.5 years. Every contractor I spoke with said I should realistically expect 9 to 11 years based on current Utah net metering policies. That's a massive difference and it's the kind of thing that could lead someone to make a bad financial decision. I wish the site was more transparent about regional utility policy variations.

I used this site thinking it would help me compare solar providers in my area objectively. What I found was that it seems to only show contractors who pay to be in their network, which isn't the same as the best contractors in my area. The best-reviewed local company I eventually hired wasn't listed on the site at all. The tool itself is functional but the contractor directory feels more like an advertising platform than a genuine comparison service.
