I've been on a lot of tours in my life, but John Hall's Alaska completely blew me away. Our guide, Thomas, knew the history of every single village we passed through. We visited a Tlingit cultural center and got to watch a traditional dance performance that gave me chills. The small group size meant we actually got to ask questions and connect with locals. Worth every penny and then some.

My wife and I celebrated our 30th anniversary on one of their Inside Passage cultural tours and it was absolutely unforgettable. The itinerary was perfectly balanced between sightseeing, cultural education, and free time. We learned so much about Alaska Native art forms and even got to try traditional foods. The accommodations were top-notch too. John Hall's team clearly puts a lot of heart into what they do.

As someone who had zero knowledge of Alaska Native cultures before this trip, I came home feeling like I had taken a college course. The guide was patient, passionate, and never made me feel like a tourist just checking a box. We visited a working totem pole carver and watched him explain the spiritual meaning behind each figure. That moment alone was worth the entire trip cost.

John Hall's Alaska is the real deal. I was worried this would be one of those touristy surface-level experiences, but it was anything but. We spent two days in a small Athabascan community and the elders there shared stories that I will carry with me forever. The company clearly has deep, respectful relationships with the communities they work with. I've already recommended them to four friends.

This tour changed the way I think about American history. Hearing directly from Alaska Native guides about their ancestors' relationship with the land and the lasting impacts of colonization was humbling and eye-opening. The company handles these sensitive topics with real care and nuance. I also appreciated that a portion of the tour fees go back to the communities they partner with. Absolutely exceptional.

Took my teenage son on this tour hoping to spark some curiosity about indigenous cultures, and it worked beyond my expectations. He spent the whole flight home telling me facts I didn't even know he'd absorbed. The guides have a gift for connecting with different ages and backgrounds. The salmon bake at the end of the Juneau tour was also incredible. A memory we'll share for a long time.

I travel solo and was a little nervous joining a group tour, but the team at John Hall's Alaska made me feel welcome from day one. The other guests were curious and respectful, and the guides set a tone of openness that made for great group conversations. The highlight for me was a beading workshop led by a Yup'ik artist who explained the symbolism in her patterns. I have the bracelet I made hanging in my office right now.

Absolutely five stars, no question. Everything from the booking process to the farewell dinner was handled professionally and warmly. Our guide Maria was extraordinary — she had a PhD in Alaska Native studies and it showed in every explanation she gave. We visited a clan house in Ketchikan that has been in continuous use for over a century, and standing inside that space was one of the most powerful travel experiences of my life.
